Man muss bedenken, dass dieser Satz im Jahr 1925 veröffentlicht ist und vor dem Jahr 1922 (dem Todesjahr Prousts) geschrieben worden sein muss, in einer Zeit, da ein trauriger Höhepunkt des Nationalismus, der Erste Weltkrieg, mit etwa 9 Millionen Opfern gerade erst vorbei war, ein anderer, der Zweite Weltkrieg, mit bis zu 60 Millionen Opfern, noch als dunkler Streif am Hoizont stand.
Es wäre uns allen zu wünschen, dass Prousts Vision, in der wir tatsächlich für die Menschheit insgesamt Liebe zu empfinden und Aufopferung aufzubringen bereit sind, sich baldigst weltweit durchsetzt -- ich habe das Gefühl, es könnte klappen, Sie auch?

You have to take into account that this sentence, published in 1925, must have been written before the 1922 (Proust's year of death), a time in which a sad peak of nationalism, WWI with 9 million victims, had just stopped, another, WW2 with up to 60 million victims, was still to come.
It would be desireable for all of us that Proust's vision, in that we really do feel attached to and devoted to mankind as a whole, should soon be accepted world wide -- I have the feeling it might work, you too?
